Abstract

Santiago de Chile has undergone a strong urban sprawl, from a compact city at the beginning of the XX century, to a diffused city. This process has not been accompanied by an adequate territorial planning, which together with other causes, has caused strong territorial inequalities in terms of availability and accessibility to green areas. In 1960, the first Plan Regulador Intercomunal de Santiago proposed an innovative Green Belt project, which has been partially implemented. Moreover urban sprawl absorbed these areas, showing the lack of these spaces. This research analyses the planning evolution of green areas in peri-urban spaces in Santiago, considering the Plan of 1960 and Plan Regulador Metropolitano 100, which dates from 2013.
