Abstract

In interwar times, Bernardo Feuer, like many other thousands of immigrants, came to Buenos Aires from Europe. He brought with him musical training closely linked to the choral world, and a high potential as a creator. His career was profuse: composer, musical educator, choir conductor and also cultural manager, since he was the founder of his choirs and organizer of concerts and festivals. Feuer was a key figure in the world of Jewish choral music, not only in the synagogue but also - and above all - in the secular, music participating in various cultural associations in the community. He brought these novelties from Europe to this side of the Atlantic Ocean and left them embodied in the formation of these secular choirs that included music from the universal repertoire, traditional Jewish songs in Yiddish and Hebrew, and works of his creation. These practices were new to community choirs in South America in the 1930s and came from him. It was he who took care of expanding them to the interior of the country and other Latin American countries. Feuer contributed his compositions, his choral arrangements and the creation of his choirs to the history of music. Bernardo Feuer is still partially unknown or forgotten. This biography tries to recover his artistic itinerary and contextualize it in his time.
