Abstract

We analyze the evolution of the Spanish community of Valparaiso during the 1880-1950 period, based on the information provided by the Civil Registry fi les and notarial archives, where wills have been reviewed from members of the community over the indicated years. The incorporation of these documents complements traditional demographic information providing interesting information which humanize a substantive knowledge of the group studied. The seventy years analyzed reveal the evolution experienced by the socio-economic group as well as demographic behavior, which is closer to European than Latin American structures. Similarly, levels of collective integration into the host society are increasing throughout the period under strong male predominance, and despite strong inbreeding behavior of the group.
