The violent death of one of the employees of Easter Island Exploitation Company, in August 1915, can shed light on the rapanui community, their acts of rebellion and resistance against the colonial power. Its effect of "justice", with the "millenarist" rebellion of 1914, allowed both the State (through the mediation of the military Bishop Edwards) and the Company, to change its colonial ties with the rapanui (from "authoritarian" and "spoiler" to "paternalistic" and "charitable" allowed hybrid forms of power and some legal pluralism).
