Repression of crime: the institutions of justice and police in the city of Pinar del Río, Cuba (1938-1958)

Formal social control, specifically justice and police institutions, is one of the less treated topics by regional historic studies in Cuba . The most of investigations related with this institutions, are valuations about repressive roles of the independent movement of XIX century or the Cuban burgess republic. Present article is an analysis of justice and police institutions in Pinar del Río City between 1938 and 1958, and it is based in the actuation against urban criminality, considering social behavior of his members, the motive of his acts, and popular opinions about efficiency of this institutions to granted public security.
