The historical consummation of the impossible

Abstract

The time of the Popular Unity is closed for our present; The political partisanship and the ideologies that led the social conflict and the institutional crisis with bloody denouement belong to a world that ended up being extinguished with the end of the Cold War, more than 30 years ago. However, in Chile, from the Pinochet dictatorship to the current democracy, events do not cease to refer us to the 1973 catastrophe. In this article I propose to understand the historical course that politics has followed in Chile in the last half century, through starting with the collapse of democracy in September 1973. My hypothesis is precisely that the event of this latest catastrophe defines the past-present of Chile.
